“Afoot and lighthearted I take to the open road, healthy, free, the world before me.”
All proceeds from your purchases go to either:
1. Feeding Sonja and I
2. Future Treks
3. Graduate School
-------- OR to fund what many have suggested.....
4. Psychological Counseling for wanting to sleep outside in subzero temps, carrying way too much weight on my back, walking until my legs feel like they are going to snap off, or any other disorder causing me to purposely subject myself to extreme discomfort just to be outside.
I have the greatest adventure partner in the world, my Alaskan Malamute, Sonja. We love to go for long walks with packs on our backs and sleep under the stars. Together we've put quite a few miles under our paws and have seen some amazing places. Taking pictures just seems like the natural thing to do so we can share with others the wonders our paths lead us to. And Sonja winds up getting her picture taken a lot because she's just so darn photogenic...even though I think she gets tired of the camera always pointed at her. She is a real trooper, as our "little walks" are no "strolls in the park" and as you will see in some of the galleries, the weather is not always a "sunny day".
We both have a passion for the outdoors, especially backpacking and fly fishing (she's still trying to figure out the casting part, but is very observant). Having lived in some pretty amazing "outdoor" states like North Carolina, Florida, Arizona, Hawaii, Colorado and now Utah, I'm often asked either "What's your favorite?" or more often, "Why did you leave Hawaii??". The answer to both is usually, "I don't know." As for my favorite, every state I once had an address in has something I love and can't get enough of, whether it's the ocean or the mountains. But I'm like a feather in the wind, always wanting to see more and I'm always looking for my next "dirt road" to explore. As I finish graduate school here in Utah though, this is home. Utah is an amazing treasure trove of National Parks, National Forests, BLM land and has everything I love (except an ocean) from deserts to mountains. Plus it's like a basecamp with easy access to my other favorite states, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada. There's not much more an outdoor lover could ask for scenery wise (except an ocean).
About The Galleries
Each gallery is more of a photographic journal for the location and I realize not every picture in each is “frame worthy” or portfolio worthy. I include them all however to tell more of story about that trip, like the weather and other conditions… or just interesting aspects about the location. Another reason I include them all as prints available for purchase is I never know what image will speak to someone and I am often surprised by which prints sell the best! So, in keeping with the cliché “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, most galleries will include the whole "journal" from the trek.
Most of my photos are also taken “on the go” and rarely with the patience of tripod to get that “perfect” shot, meaning I sometimes have to do some minor post processing to enhance or even attempt to salvage the image. Sometimes I will even claim my artistic license and try to transform an image to look a like water color painting... which is my favorite type of artwork.
